Students from the Sir John A Cumber Primary IB World School in West Bay, were privileged to interact with two people who are in a position to educate them on hazard awareness during the hurricane season.
The people were Omar Afflick, deputy director of preparedness at Hazard Management Cayman Islands and manager of the National Emergency Operations Center Cayman Islands, along with John Tibbetts, chief meteorologist and deputy director of the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
The hurricane season remains in effect until 30th November, and the importance of being prepared for a storm or any other natural disaster can never be overstated.
Mr. Afflick focused on natural disasters that are likely to affect the Cayman Islands, such as hurricanes and earthquakes and the devastating impacts these phenomenon can have.
While Mr. Tibbetts explained his role and that of the National Weather Service especially during a looming hurricane.
The students were also given some welcome tips, and advised on the 'do's' and 'don'ts' in the event of a disaster.
